Child Care/Orphanage
Our childcare program accommodates mostly those children who have lost both parents as a result of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, we have five children who were abandoned by their parents because of poverty related issues. In total we have 35 children under our care, 30 children lost their parents as a result of HIV/AIDS.
In most cases HIV/AIDS leads to death of both parents, and as the epidemic progresses, however, the strongest guardians fall sick themselves or become overwhelmed with dependents. Orphans are left with increasingly vulnerable guardians – elderly grandparents, young siblings, and relatives who are themselves infected with HIV.
With the introduction of Antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) we have seen a little reduction in AIDS/HIV related deaths, however AIDS/HIV is still a major cause of death among our people here.
The Ugandan government introduced free primary education in 1997, and free secondary education in 2007, so, the children under our care do not need school fees, they all attend government funded schools in our community. However, this is what our children need.
1 – The children under our care need beds – double decker beds, most of these children sleep on the ground, but they have the mattresses, what they lack are beds. We need 35 double decker beds, each at a cost of 500,000 Ugandan shillings, which is equivalent to 134 USD each. So, 35 double decker beds cost 17500000 Ugandan shillings, equivalent to 4690 USD for 35 double deckers.
2 – We need a vehicle to serve the home for the children, to help collect food stuffs from church members and members of our community who offer our children free food, so, we need a vehicle to collect the food from those who donate it to our children. We also need this vehicle to help in medical emergencies, and transporting them during their tours once in a while. Every child is precious in the sight of God, these vulnerable children deserve our love and care. A good second hand vehicle costs 18725000 Ugandan shillings, which is equivalent to 5000 USD.
In case you would love to help these vulnerable children of God, your gift is most welcome. May our Lord Jesus Christ touch your heart, and you be part of this glorious work here, Amen.
